Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) disruptors are used by specially trained EOD operators to remotely open or render safe a suspect item or improvised explosive device (IED). Most disruptors are capable of discharging several different types of projectiles depending on the challenge and environment being faced.
Many techniques exist for the ‘making safe’ of a bomb or munition and the selection of a technique depends on several variables. The greatest variable is the proximity of the munition or device to people or critical facilities. Explosives in remote localities are handled very differently from those in densely populated areas. The role of the modern bomb disposal operator is to accomplish their task as remotely and safely as possible, minimising any danger to the public in all possible circumstances, commonly using Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs).
The ABP Disruptor Range – when size matters
ABP designs and manufactures a range of recoilless disruptors and de-armers, two of the most widely used being the ABL2000L and the ABL3000L. The ABL2000 Lightweight Recoilless Disruptor is suitable for render safe procedures on IEDs of medium size, whereas the ABL300L allows the management of larger IEDs such as suitcases or hard containers.
Both the ABL2000L and the ABL3000L disruptors are made of titanium, making them extremely portable and ideal for an operator to carry. Commonly used on UGVs where payload weights are restricted and limited to smaller capability disruptors. ABP’s lightweight range of disruptors allows small & medium sized robots to carry larger capacity disruptors, which would normally be unavailable to them. At only 1.32kg and 2.65kg respectively the ABP range really is the disruptor of choice when weight is an underlying critical factor. Giving over a 50% weight saving to its equivalent steel products.
ABP disruptors undergo stringent testing during development and manufacture, with all disruptors going through 100% proof firings and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). This ensures reliable and consistent disruptive performance, to guarantee complete recoilless operation, minimum collateral damage, and maximum operator safety.
Both the ABL2000L and ABL3000L Lightweight Recoilless Disruptors are manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001 quality standard. Prior to dispatch, all items of equipment are subjected to an overpressure proof test and flaw detection.
ABP is highly experienced in the design, manufacture and supply of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD) equipment, supplying military, law enforcement and security agencies around the world with leading-edge bomb disposal tools and military equipment.
With over 50 years’ experience, and an expert design and engineering team, we take huge pride in the way our work helps to save lives in extremely dangerous environments all over the world.
